STITCHED: THE FILM

The documentary 'Stitched' was the big talk in Houston. Stitched is a film that follows three quilters between 2009 and 2010 as they create their quilts for the judged show. It is a wonderful film, full of what really goes on in the big quilt shows (even showing scenes of the actual judging of the quilts for the 2010 IQA and AQS shows). The film shows honest opinions, moments of fun, and gets up-close and personal in the lives of the three quilters.

In this 72-minute documentary, these quilters create their pieces to compete in the 2010 quilt show.  Stitched reveals stories of friendship, passion and art. It also highlights the divide between traditional and art quilters. Other quilting rock stars including Ricky Tims are interviewed in this film. Karey Bresenhan, Nancy Puentes O'Bryant, Jake Finch, Meg Cox, Libby Lehman and Mark Lipinski also make appearances.

Some of the film was shot in Paducah, Kentucky, the location of the nation's second largest annual quilt show hosted by the American Quilter's Society. Filmmakers also visited Randall in his Rochester, New York home and Hollis in her Hillsborough, North Carolina studio.

Here are some quotes from the film:

More than 60,000 quilters attended the show in 2010.
There are 21 million quilters in the United States.
Behind every stitch is a story.
Many quilters go from sewing to quilting and more recently art to quilting.
In 2010, there was 3.58 million dollars spent on making and buying quilts.
Quilters spend more money on quilting than hunters, fishermen and golfers.

This fun-filled documentary highlights the bonds of friendship amongst quilters.  Bring your friends and your hand sewing projects for a sit ‘n stitch.

Quilt show Commitee Meeting tonight!

Posted By Michelle Lynch
I am looking forward going to the first Quilt Show 2012 Committee meeting tonight, June 13 at 7:00pm at McFarlin Methodist. It's time to get moving on another great show. We really need to get going on the Raffle Quilt/Opportunity Quilt (whichever you want to call it!) so we can sell lots of tickets.
Once again, I will be doing Quilt display and entries, and would like to encourage every guild member to enter a quilt. You are allowed to enter as many quilts as you wish, but we ask that multiple entries are prioritized so we know which ones to not hang if there are too many entries.
Our Quilt show has gained a favorable reputation due to the wonderful variety of talent in our guild as shown in the quilts and due to our hospitality to our Vendors. I hope everyone in the guild will participate and help us to have another successful quilt show. Remember that the success of the quilt show determines how much money we have available for future guild programs and speakers. A quilt show is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun and a great opportunity to build friendships with our fellow guild members. I hope to see many new faces on the committee!

May 16 is Community Quilting Day

I hope to see each of you on Monday, May 16th, from 10am to 8pm. We will have lots of things
going on and will be able to keep everyone busy. Come for an hour or two or
come for the day -- it will be fun.

We have a good supply of children's prints but we need more solid fabrics
to go with them. Please consider diving into your stash and donating bright
solid or "reads as solid" 100% cotton fabric to Community Quilts. We can use
scraps, fat quarters, yardage -- any and all will be gratefully accepted. I can pick
your fabric up or you can bring it to any meeting.

As always, thank you so very much for the work you all do for Community
Quilts. It's a joy to take the beautiful quilts to our recipients.

Chair, Community Quilts
